29 Sep 2014 Heidelberg - At the ISC Cloud'14 Conference in Heidelberg,Primeur Magazinehad the opportunity to interview Steven Newhouse, Head of Technical Services for Technology and Science Integration at EMBL, based at Hinxton in the United Kingdom, about the EMBL-EBI Embassy Cloud. The EMBL-EBI Embassy Cloud is a collaborative computing and data services infrastructure that was set up at Hinxton to enable the team to support collaboration between expert partners in bio-informatics.
The Embassy Cloud provides a range of open data and open sources to be used by the bio-informaticians worldwide. By providing access to those services, the team established the Embassy Cloud as a means for people to bring their data analysis closer to this computing and data service infrastructure.
This enables researchers to avoid heavy downloads of data to their local infrastructure and to bring their analysis to where the data is located. Steven Newhouse explained that this is a fairly simple step forward for the researchers in the academic space to bring their analysis to the EMBL data and to enable them to perform the research that they want, using services that EMBL provides.
