Terascala announces enhanced version of proven storage management solution for fast data analysis in the Cloud and in shared resource environments

10 Nov 2011 Avon - Terascala Inc., an expert in Fast Data storage management, has launched the Terascala Integrated Storage Information System (TISIS) v3.0. TISIS v3.0 builds upon Terascala's proven management solution and features extensive analytics for Fast Data work flow optimization in the Cloud, in remote shared facilities, or locally.

TISIS v3.0 provides real-time optimization of Fast Data storage to accelerate the delivery of data to large pools of servers so it can be processed and accessed by organisations as quickly as possible. TISIS v3.0 is browser-based and is available on a range of Terascala-based appliances or as a downloadable software module that can work with any Lustre or parallel file system on the market today.

"As organisations capture and store larger quantities of big data, they are finding that processing that data is extremely difficult because access speed is so slow. Simply put, today's management products weren't designed to turn big data into Fast Data", stated Steve Butler, chief executive officer at Terascala. "The TISIS architecture builds upon Terascala's expertise in managing large quantities of data in HPC environments and enables organisations to transition from capacity-based storage to throughput-based storage with the speed needed to use the data productively."

The TISIS architecture is based on a unique approach to Fast Data work flow optimization, and combines a number data sources that are typically separate, including:

  • Parallel file system operation
  • Storage appliance architecture
  • Management solutions that are able to monitor, learn and predict the characteristics of Fast Data compute jobs
  • Job scheduling software

"By combining all these elements, users are able to not just get a 'red light / green light' view of their systems, but are actually able to get insight into how to best optimize their environment depending on work flow", stated Rick Friedman, vice president of marketing and product management at Terascala. "TISIS v3.0 blends Terascala's rock-solid, proven management environment with the tools and analytics needed for getting the most value out of big data."

With TISIS v3.0, users can track many of the metrics required for a Service Level Agreement (SLA) for Cloud-based Fast Data storage services, including bandwidth usage, capacity consumption, client node access, and specific job resource usage. In addition, TISIS v3.0 incorporates new cloud-friendly features to help organisations maximize big data, including:

  • Capacity planning
  • Throughput planning
  • Utilization tracking
  • Usage schedule optimization
  • Performance metrics
  • Complete system management

The complete TISIS system incorporates all the software components needed to completely manage a Fast Data storage environment remotely. These include:

  • TISIS Analytics: a new analytics extension to TISIS that allows users to understand their system performance over time
  • TISIS Console: the graphical user interface that simplifies the management of Terascala-based storage appliances
  • TISIS Server: the software that links all the components together including Terascala's unique notification system
  • TISIS Agents: optimized data collection agents that reside on all the components of a Terascala-based storage appliance.

TISIS is currently used in a wide range of shared computing clusters today and is sold by Terascala's business partners, including Dell and EMC.

Terascala appliances range from small, single cluster scratch storage solutions up to multiple petabyte, highly available installations and deliver the industry's best price/performance high throughput storage solutions for HPC and big data environments. All Terascala-based solutions were designed to be easy to deploy and easy to manage so that users can get the most out of their environments with little disruption.

TISIS v3.0 will be introduced and demonstrated at the SC11 conference, November 14-18, 2011 in Seattle, Washington.
