PRACE was present with a stand at EUCYS to inform the young scientists about the possibilities of supercomputers and the different PRACE activities in Training and Education. In addition two open days for the public gave the PRACE booth team the chance to inform a wider audience about PRACE. The PRACE Mars Mania video game helped to raise awareness among the younger visitors.
During the event an international scientific jury reviewed the contestants from 43 countries which included EU Member States, countries associated to the EU research framework programme, and invited guest countries like from Canada, US and South Korea.
Robert-Jan Smits, Director-General of the DG for Research and Innovation, EC opened with a warm Welcome speech the EUCYS Award Ceremony, which took place on 26 September 2017. The Core Prizes of EUCYS was presented by the President of the Republic of Estonia Kersti Kaljulaid and Robert-Jan Smits, EC. PRACE was delighted to hand over the special PRACE travel prize to Adomas Paulauskas, from Lithuania for his work on "Virtual Reality Games for Rehabilitation". The PRACE prize consists of a visit to the supercomputer facilities at PRACE member SURFSara in Amsterdam, including travel and accommodation.
The Award Ceremony gave an amazing platform to so many talented young scientists to be celebrated and honoured for their research work. Finally, EUCYS 2018 hosting partner Ireland was announced.
