The International Desktop Grid Federation Support Project (IDGF-SP) operates and maintains a large infrastructure of Desktop Grid servers including volunteer resources, Clouds, scientific gateways, application repositories, and gLite endpoints.
The infrastructure is continuously monitored and operated 24/7. The Desktop Grid projects are based on BOINC. They can be of the institutional or volunteer type. The application execution is made safe and simple thanks to virtualization on the volunteer resources.

Resources from Clouds are only used occasionally when there is a need to speed up the computation of a certain set of jobs submitted by the scientific users. Scientific users can submit jobs through various graphical scientific gateways or through the gLite Grid system.
Applications can be selected from one of the application repositories or can be brought by the scientific users.
The EDGeS@Home Grid system has already delivered over 300 million CPU hours.
