TACC launches mobile app

30 Sep 2013 Austin - The Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) has launched a mobile app to inform the general public about the value of supercomputing in everyday life, and to provide powerful features to help scientists better use TACC's advanced computing resources.

The iOS application is downloadable through Apple's App Store. For non-iPhone users, TACC also offers a mobile optimized web app, accessible with any mobile web browser. In addition, the TACC Web & Mobile Applications group is working on a native app for Android phones that will be available through the Google Play Store.

"The TACC app offers valuable news and information about supercomputing's role in society, and helps our users manage their science wherever they go", stated Matthew Hanlon, manager of TACC's Web & Mobile Applications group. "For scientists who use TACC systems, the app offers important features on the go such as push notifications for services including user news, consulting updates, and HPC job status changes."

The TACC iOS app includes the following features:

1. For the public

  • Feature Stories and News: find out the latest news and science enabled by advanced computing
  • Events Calendar: see up-to-date information on current, ongoing and future events
  • Systems & Software: browse a collection of current high performance computing (HPC), visualization, storage and software resources
  • Connect with TACC: use interactive maps to guide you to TACC's locations

2. For researchers and scientists

  • User News: be informed immediately about important system maintenance and updates
  • Consulting Tickets: create, update and respond to tickets
  • My Jobs: view the status of your HPC jobs and stay notified when they change
  • My Projects & Allocations: track your current allocation status, team members, and recent jobs
  • Systems Monitor: view current system health and status
  • Vislab Reservations: browse through upcoming Vislab events and training workshops
  • Profile: view and update your TACC contact information

To download the TACC iOS app, you can visit https://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=705212751&mt=8
