Dr. Maria Ramalho took appointment as PRACE Managing Director

17 Oct 2011 Brussels - PRACE Research Infrastructure appointed Dr. Maria Ramalho as Managing Director of the Association with office in Brussels, Belgium. Dr. Ramalho is an expert in the field of telecommunication networks and a skilled project co-ordinator.

"We are very pleased to welcome Dr. Ramalho as PRACE's Managing Director. Her experience in both public and private sectors will bring plausible benefits to the enhancement of the PRACE Research Infrastructure", expressed Prof. Achim Bachem, chair of the PRACE Council.

Since her first professional experience as a researcher, Dr. Ramalho has held different positions, in the industrial and academic sectors as well as at the European Commission. During 6 years (2004-2010), she was in charge of the administration of projects of the 6th (FP6) and 7th (FP7) Framework Programmes. As scientific officer, she participated in policy actions related to ICT-based research infrastructures, in particular those listed in the roadmap of the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures. Since 2010, she was the editor of the Vision document for Supercomputing in Europe in 2020, as part of her professional duties at Forschungszentrum Jülich GmbH, one of the partners of the Gauss Centre for Supercomputing alliance in Germany.

"As PRACE Managing Director, my first objective is to strengthen the team who will co-ordinate and extend the high-quality services that the PRACE Research Infrastructure provides in Europe", stated Maria Ramalho.

PRACE AISBL is currently recruiting several job profiles, such as officers dedicated to peer review exercises, financial, legal and communication duties. The staff will be based in Brussels where the Association has its seat.
