Altair announces most successful UK technology event to date

23 Sep 2013 Leamington Spa - Altair UK's 8th Technology Conference attracted over 400 engineers and simulation experts, confirming the Conference as one of the most important events in the UK engineering calendar.

Eleven high quality technical presentations represented a diverse range of industries including aerospace, automotive and defence. Topics included optimisation, composites, NVH, safety, solver sessions for accurate structural analysis, multi-body dynamics, and more. Keynote speakers from Jaguar Cars, Airbus and The Design Museum discussed their vision for the industry and the importance of technology in supporting innovation. Alister Whelan, Chief Designer, Jaguar Cars discussed how he led the design of the Jaguar F-Type from sketch to production. John Roberts, Chief Engineer A380, Airbus UK, spoke about the project to design and build the world's largest commercial aircraft. Deyan Sudjic, Director, Design Museum, discussed how design can help us see where we are going - and think about whether we want to.

Darren Ashby, Jaguar Land Rover, was awarded best paper which was titled 'The Automatic Creation and Optimisation of Structural Fixings using HyperWorks'. This paper showcased a concept joining tool that has been developed in collaboration with Altair using HyperWorks to produce a welded structure within a matter of hours.

"I am proud to say that this high level of attendance is an endorsement to how well the Altair software tools are respected in industry today. Our conferences present an excellent platform for engineers and designers from across industry to communicate their work and interact with others to drive the CAE industry forward", stated Hakan Ekman, Managing Director, Altair Engineering UK. "It is encouraging to learn that most attendees would recommend the conference to their colleagues as a great networking forum, and that most rated the technical quality of the papers as either excellent or very good. All feedback from the conference will be used to improve our next conference for 2015", added Mr. Ekman.

Fujitsu and nCode were this year's gold sponsors, and they were joined by other sponsors including Materialise, Moldex3D, Safe Technology, and Applied Computing & Engineering. In addition to the sponsors, the following exhibitors presented their innovations: Jaguar Cars - F-TYPE, SVT - desktop NVH Simulator, Airbus - Airbus A350 parts, and Assa Asuach - 3D Printed Stool.
