General availability of Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre software v2.3

29 Jul 2015 Santa Clara - Intel has made available the latest release of its Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre software. Not long ago storage for high performance computing (HPC) meant complexity and challenging management. HPC was the domain of government-sponsored research or data-intensive applications, like weather prediction or large-scale manufacturing in the aerospace and automotive sectors.

Today, HPC has expanded beyond just national laboratories and research institutes to become a key technology for enterprises of all sizes as they seek to develop improved products or entirely new industries. Getting the maximum performance from HPC and data-intensive applications requires fast and scalable storage software. Simply put, today's HPC workloads require storage infrastructure that scales endlessly and delivers unmatched I/O levels.

This release incorporates the following updates:

  • Distributed Namespace

Distributed Namespace (DNE) allows the Lustre metadata to be distributed across multiple metadata servers. This version supports DNE1, which allows multiple MDTs, each of which can serve discrete sub-directories of a file system name space. This enables the size of the Lustre namespace and metadata throughput to scale with demand and provide dedicated metadata servers for projects, departments or specific workloads. This feature is now supported by the Intel Manager for Lustre GUI.

  • RHEL 7.1 Client Support

Intel EE for Lustre software version 2.3.0.0 supports clients running RHEL 7.1.

  • SLES 12 Client Support
This version supports the installation of Lustre on client nodes running SUSE Linux Enterprise 12.
