DDN increases its TOP500 HPC leadership to an unprecedented 70 percent of global supercomputing centres

29 Jun 2016 Santa Clara - DataDirect Networks (DDN) is the dominant storage provider of the world's fastest supercomputers for the eighth consecutive year with storage solutions that power more than 70 percent of identifiable sites on the most recent TOP500.org rankings list. The prestigious TOP500 list ranks the largest supercomputing environments by performance capabilities, and recognizes the vendors and technologies that power the most data intensive environments on the globe.

"DDN's leadership position on the TOP500 list continues to align with our market research surveys, in which high performance computing users identify DDN as their storage provider more than any other vendor", stated Addison Snell, CEO of Intersect360 Research, the market research partner of TOP500.org. "With its focus on high-performance, scalable technologies, such as parallel file systems and burst buffer acceleration, DDN is well-positioned to continue to grow, addressing the intensifying demands of traditional HPC users, as well as expanding use cases in high performance business computing."

As exemplified by the organisations on the TOP500 list, high performance computing environments face extreme pressure to accelerate innovation cycles as their end users work to solve some of the world's most challenging questions in medicine, physics and the atmosphere quickly, efficiently and at intensifying levels of scale.

With its proven and sustained leadership in HPC and Big Data environments worldwide, DDN continues to deliver ground-breaking technology innovations that deliver massively scalable, ultra-efficient end-to-end solutions with the highest levels of performance and reliability. DDN's latest solution introductions for the HPC and data-intensive Enterprise markets include the Flashscale Hyperconverged All-Flash Array, the hyper-converged GRIDScaler GS14K Enterprise NAS Appliance and EXAScaler ES14K high performance Lustre appliance, which deliver 4x the speed of competitive offerings with up to ½ TB/second throughput in a single rack, the lowest latency - as low as 100μs for superfast embedded file system and metadata speeds thanks to DDN's specially designed internal PCIe Gen3 fabric, and the most efficient scalability with up to 2x more capacity per rack than competitive alternatives.

“For the eighth consecutive year the overwhelming majority of supercomputer centres on the TOP500 list have selected DDN as their strategic partner and storage vendor of choice", stated Molly Rector, chief marketing officer, DDN. "Our market share as the storage solution provider to the TOP500 has grown this year primarily due to expansion in the adoption of our end-to-end data management solutions. DDN is now able to deliver unmatched efficiency and performance to the application users and compute cluster with our burst buffer and SSD acceleration solutions. Simultaneously, our ability to simply and transparently archive data to cost effective archive storage enables our users to deliver the performance needed to accelerate scientific discovery within limited budget constraints. No other vendor in the HPC storage industry is delivering the complete solutions needed to accelerate next generation scientific discoveries, life-saving advances in medicine and the business insights to become more competitive."
