PRACE looks back on successful ISC 2016 Conference in Frankfurt

30 Jun 2016 Brussels - At the opening session of ISC16 the winner of the PRACE ISC Award was announced by Alison Kennedy, Managing Director of PRACE. PRACE welcomed interested visitors at its booth and invited them to listen to various presentations about PRACE activities. The ISC 2016 PRACE Training Day Workshop gave the opportunity to have an open dialogue with the HPC ecosystem stakeholders about the training needs for future HPC experts.

During the ISC Research Paper session Alison Kennedy was delighted to give the PRACE ISC Award 2016 to James Sokhum King on behalf of his team including, Thomas Gilray, Robert M. Kirby, and Matthew Might of the University of Utah, Salt Lake City, United States, for their paper entitled " Dynamic Sparse-Matrix Allocation on GPUs ".

The PRACE booth was opened by a welcome speech from Alison Kennedy, Managing Director of PRACE on June 20. During three days visitors were offered different short presentations related to the various activities of PRACE:

  • PRACE SME HPC Adoption Programme (SHAPE) and industrial access: the 4th SHAPE call for proposals is open
  • PRACE Peer Review: Project and Preparatory Access
  • PRACE Training and Outreach
  • Women in HPC

More than 245 participants visited the PRACE booth to gather interesting information and publications about PRACE. You can watch the videos now.

PRACE offers various training courses via the PRACE Advanced Training Centres (PATCs). PRACE training efforts have been addressing the critical need to educate the next generation of HPC scientists. The aim of the workshop chaired by Nia Alexandov on June 23 was to create an open dialogue with the HPC ecosystem stakeholders on addressing the challenges and tackling the skills gap in HPC and Computational Science by providing a platform to discuss number of current issues. PRACE aims to intensify online training with his own MOOCs or Massive Open Online Courses. The workshop was concluded with a panel discussion chaired by Ioannis Liabotis. Organised was the workshop by Nia Alexandrov, Barcelona Supercomputing Center, Ondrej Jakl, VSB, and Ioannis Liabotis, GRNET.
