Changsha National Supercomputing Center inaugurated

12 Jul 2011 Changsha - The installation of the Tianhe No.1, which has a performance 100 T/flop/s , was completed at the National Supercomputing Center. It was opened to the public in Changsha on July 9. This is the second supercomputing centre succeeding t in putting a Tianjin supercomputer into actual operation. It shows the supercomputing service of Hunan is now in the front ranks in China.

Before October 1 this year, the host capacity of Tianhe No.1, will be expanded to 300 Tflop/s times. In the next five years, it is expected to reach 1 quadrillion calculations per second, enabling the computing of Changsha centre to to be in the upper ranks of the TOP500.

The launching of the Changsha centre will greatly increase the supercomputing capacity of Hunan and provide better services for public institutions and scientific research departments in areas of weather forecasting, disaster prevention, environmental protection, colleges and scientific institutes. It will also boost development and innovation in industries including equipment manufacturing, ferrous metallurgy, automotive industry, biomedicine and animation, and quicken the pace of new industrialization, agricultural modernization, new urbanization and informatisation.
