21 Jun 2017 Frankfurt - On 20 June 2017, PRACE - Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe - and the CHPC - Centre for High Performance Computing, South Africa - signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the PRACE booth at ISC 2017. The inspiration for this MoU came from informal meetings between PRACE and the CHPC that took place at the International Conference on Research Infrastructure (ICRI) 2016, in October 2016 in Cape Town, South Africa.

PRACE Managing Director, Serge Bogaerts and CHPC Director, Dr. Happy Sithole are delighted to announce the signing of the MoU between the CHPC, South Africa and PRACE, Europe.

The purpose of the MoU is to implement a fruitful exchange of information in the fields of Computational Science and Engineering. In addition, the aim is to identify collaboration and partnership opportunities as a strategic objective. To achieve these objectives, a set of concrete tasks will be identified and then supervised by coordinators designated by both the CHPC represented by Dr. Werner Janse van Rensburg and PRACE represented by Serge Bogaerts. The follow-up of the implementation of this MoU will also be the subject of technical meetings between the parties.

"The CHPC is delighted about the memorandum of understanding agreed with PRACE as it will pave the way for defining concrete collaboration opportunities for the benefit of CHPC and its users. It will also positively build the networking opportunities between the CHPC and PRACE. I'm indeed looking forward to this exciting collaboration opportunity", stated Dr. van Rensburg, CHPC Research Manager.

The MoU between the CHPC and PRACE will strengthen and deepen their co-operation at the international level and reinforce the HPC ecosystem worldwide.

"This MoU between PRACE and CHPC is another step towards a world-wide HPC ecosystem for excellent science and research supporting flagship projects like SKA (square kilometre array)", stated Prof. Dr. Anwar Osseyran, Chair of the PRACE Council.
