ISC High Performance focuses on the most crucial HPC topics in 2018

30 May 2017 Frankfurt - The ISC programme team, together with ISC 2018 programme chair Prof. Horst Simon, have announced 13 topics that will be the focus of next year's conference. These topics embrace a range of subject matter critical to the development of the high performance computing field, which, in return, impacts the quality of human life.

The list of the topics that will be addressed by over 100 invited speakers is the following:

  • Beyond Moore's Law
  • Exascale Systems
  • Climate Change
  • HPC and Electric Power Grid Control
  • Big Data Analytics
  • Cosmology and HPC
  • Human Brain Modelling and Related Big Data Challenges
  • Future Applications for Quantum Computers
  • Robotics
  • What's New with Cloud Computing for HPC?
  • Future Challenges for Programming Models and Languages
  • The Rise of Containerized HPC
  • Artificial Intelligence on HPC Platforms

Nine individuals who have served as deputy chairs in the 2017 conference have been promoted to chair positions for next year's event. They bring with them varied research interests, as well as expertise.

Prof. David Keyes of KAUST will serve as the Research Paper chair and The Research Poster committee will be headed by Dr. Matthias S. Müller of RTWH Aachen. A topic close to his heart, Prof. Gerhard Wellein of the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen in Nuremberg will chair the PhD Forum chair. Prof. Georg Hager, also of the Erlangen Regional Computing Center, will chair the Birds-of Feather sessions.

The ISC Workshops committee will be headed by John Shalf of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, while the Tutorials committee will be chaired by Dr. Rosa M. Badia of Barcelona Supercomputing Center. The HPC in Asia and the ISC Special Track chairs will be announced at a later date.

New next year, Kim McMahon of McMahon Consulting has been appointed as the ISC Diversity Chair. She possesses over 18 years of industry experience and is an active member of the Women in HPC organisation.

The organizers are confident that the 2018 conference will offer talks that encompass an array of unique topics and speakers. The full programme details will be available when registration opens in March 2018.

The conference will once again be held at Forum Messe Frankfurt and will take place from June 24 to June 28, 2018.
