Interview with Jan Bot and Cristina Aiftimiei about the SURFsara MOOC on-line training on Grid computing

22 May 2014 Helsinki - At the EGI Community Forum 2014 in Helsinki, Finland, Primeur Magazine had the opportunity to talk with Jan Bot, Consultant at SURFsara, The Netherlands, and Cristina Aiftimiei from the Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN) in Italy, about the SURFsara MOOC - Massive Open Online Course, an on-line training on Grid computing.

In the SURFsara MOOC on Grid Computing, the organizers are trying to teach how to use Grid computing for different scientific projects. The MOOC is open for anyone all over the world for registration. In the last two months, 350 participants have registered and some 30 people managed to receive a Grid certificate, showing that they have mastered Grid computing as a method of working.

One of the Grid MOOC students was Cristina Aiftimiei from INFN, Italy. The course offered Cristina Aiftimiei a different knowledge about the components she was managing, not only to see how they interacted but also how they are used by others. The course provided experiences from other users and from developers.

Cristina was also interested in the already prepared virtual machines and in the different certificates available. The tests and questions were pretty challenging but Cristina enjoyed the MOOC because you can follow it in your own free time.

Jan Bot announced that over the Summer a new course probably will be started. He promised to definitely keep all interested parties posted about the next course.
