2016 National Research Infrastructure Roadmap for Australia is now available

12 May 2017 Canberra - The 2016 National Research Infrastructure Roadmap for Australia outlines national research infrastructure required for the coming decade so that Australia's world class research system continues to improve productivity, create jobs, lift economic growth and support a healthy environment. A copy of the 2016 Roadmap is now available.

The 2016 Roadmap has identified the following nine focus areas that require ongoing support to ensure that Australia will be able to maintain its position as an emerging or established global leader:

  • Digital Data and eResearch Platforms
  • Platforms for Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences
  • Characterisation
  • Advanced Fabrication and Manufacturing
  • Advanced Physics and Astronomy
  • Earth and Environmental Systems
  • Biosecurity
  • Complex Biology
  • Therapeutic Development

Australia's Chief Scientist, Dr. Alan Finkel AO, led the development of the 2016 Roadmap, supported by an Expert Working Group.

The 2016 Roadmap was developed through extensive consultation with the research community, universities, industry, federal, state and territory governments, publicly funded research agencies and operators of research infrastructure facilities.

The Expert Working Group received nearly 500 written submissions and consulted with over 580 stakeholders in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Townsville, Canberra, Sydney, Hobart and Melbourne in developing the 2016 Roadmap. The 2016 National Research Infrastructure Roadmap submissions can be found online .

The 2016 Roadmap was provided to Government in February 2017 and is now available .
