Oracle's SPARC systems with Oracle Solaris and Oracle VM Server for SPARC, deliver highly optimized system performance, energy efficiency and scalability for customers running Oracle Database, Oracle Fusion Middleware and Oracle Applications in a mission-critical environments.
These new benchmarks add to more than 70 previous record breaking performance results delivered by SPARC-based systems including world records for database, Java, Web, and enterprise applications, highlighting Oracle's industry-leading performance on a wide range of enterprise workloads.
Oracle recently announced a new world record non-clustered TPC-H benchmark result at 3TB scale factor demonstrating the superior performance and scalability of Oracle Database 11g Release 2 running on Oracle Solaris 10, and Oracle's SPARC Enterprise M9000 server utilizing Oracle's Sun Storage 6180 arrays. Oracle's complete data warehousing solution delivered the best performance among all competing single-system results, nearly doubling the previous top score and beating the best published IBM score at the 3000 GB scale factor by almost 2.5 times.
Representing the most popular of Oracle's JD Edwards EnterpriseOne applications, this "Day-in-the-Life" Benchmark showcases the SPARC T3-1 server running the online component 25 percent faster than the POWER7-based IBM P750 system. Additionally, the SPARC T3-1 running Oracle WebLogic Server 11g R1 version 10.3.2, a component of Oracle Fusion Middleware, and Oracle's JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0.1 with Tools 220.127.116.11 along with Oracle Solaris has better response time and occupies only half the space of IBM P750 server.
The Oracle Communications ASAP benchmark simulates the fulfillment of mobile activation orders that are executed across several mobile network elements. Oracle's Netra SPARC T3-1 carrier-grade server, running Oracle Solaris 10, Oracle Database 11g, Oracle WebLogic Server 11g and Oracle Communications ASAP 7.0.2, achieved a result of 158 orders per second running multiple instances of ASAP server in a consolidated deployment scenario. This staggering result further proves that Oracle's solutions, based on powerful carrier-grade Netra systems, are capable of addressing the scalability needs of service providers globally.
The MedRec application provides a framework for patients, doctors, and administrators to manage patient data using a variety of different clients. The Sun Blade 6000 modular system with SPARC T3-1B blade running Oracle Solaris and this Java Platform Enterprise Edition (Java EE) application on Oracle WebLogic Server 11g and SPARC Enterprise M5000 servers, running Oracle Database 11g, showed excellent scaling with different number of cores as well as doubling the performance of previous generation SPARC blade.
Oracle's SPARC T-series systems, based on the T3 processor which features integrated on-chip cryptographic accelerators, delivers near wire speed encryption capabilities for customers with critical data and services in need of protection under enterprise class Oracle Solaris. Oracle's test results demonstrate that SPARC T3 processor running the IPsec AES-256-CCM cipher often used for securing Virtual Private Networking (VPN) applications now operates at near line speed over a 10 Gigabit Ethernet network. This allows systems equipped with the T3 processor to significantly outperform Intel Xeon-based machines while executing cryptographic operations.
Specifically, the 1.6 GHz SPARC T3 processor demonstrated more than 2x the cryptographic throughput of the 2.93 GHz Intel Xeon X5670 processor. Moreover, with dedicated hardware support for encryption/decryption for AES and eleven other ciphers, SPARC T3 processor was 12 times faster for in-memory RSA decryption than the Intel Xeon X5670 processor as measured by pk11rsaperf test. This outstanding cryptographic throughput performance makes servers equipped with SPARC T3 processors an attractive platform for applications requiring secure network communications.
