From 21 January to 21 April, software developers, start-ups, weather professionals and data scientists are called to take part in this open online programme designed to develop weather data technologies. Participants, applying as an individual or as a team, can choose among the new challenges listed in this edition 2019, all aim at streamlining and supporting daily activities at the ECMWF.
At the end of April, the five best software solutions to the challenges in terms of feasibility, innovation, future proof-approach and transferability, will be announced as winners of ESoWC 2019. The five selected candidates / teams will be awarded GBP 5000 each and get the exciting opportunity to team up with their ECMWF mentors.
The coding period, from 1 May to 31 August, encompasses four months of intense teamwork when developers and mentors will collaborate closely in the development of the shortlisted proposals. The release of the five open-source projects, doubtless a fruitful contribution to support ECMWF and its Member and Co-operating States, on the 20th September 2019 will conclude the ESoWC 2019.
