Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre 2.2 launched

16 Apr 2015 Santa Clara - Intel Enterprise Edition for Lustre Software 2.2 is now available for download from Intel. This latest version of the most reliable version of Lustre the company has ever built introduces many key new features, capabilities and technologies that empower customers to do amazing things with superfast parallel storage.

Intel Manager for Lustre support for OpenZFS is available to exploit data resiliency, volume management capabilities and reduced storage costs with OpenZFS. Intel Manager for Lustre now supports monitoring of Lustre file systems containing OpenZFS backed storage.

Lustre can now pass Differentiated Storage Services (DSS) hints, allowing data to be tagged with cache priority classes. When used with DSS enabled storage, this allows more intelligent use and eviction of high-speed cache storage. You can make the most of your investment in faster tiers of storage with Intel DSS and Lustre.

Two years ago, Intel released the world's first Hadoop adapter for Lustre, enabling end users of HPC clusters to run MapReduce workloads on their existing HPC infrastructure. Today, Intel introduces the second vital piece to this strategy: the Intel HPC adapter for MapReduce. This technology enables the integration SLURM Resource Management with Hadoop and YARN, easily and effectively allowing MapReduce applications to be run as normal HPC jobs. Now you have a POSIX compliant file system that can run MapReduce jobs as much as 7 times faster, without building out special hardware, and without the complexities of moving extremely large data sets around. This means lower cost of ownership, better ROI and faster time to results.

Apache Hive and HBase data-warehousing and non-relational distributed database applications can now be used when running Hadoop with fast and scalable Lustre backing storage using the Hadoop adapter software from Intel.

Intel Manager for Lustre provides a simple to use administrator's web console. This release includes features such as IOPs Heat Maps that enrich the existing heat map functionality to provide greater visualization of the file system performance, Security Patches to keep your file system secure and expanded documentation to simplify deploying Lustre.

Intel is the primary developer of Lustre features as a key member of the open source community. With more than 500 man-years of Lustre expertise on staff, Intel is uniquely qualified to provide fast, capable support for Lustre if anything should need attention. Together with Intel's hardware partners, you can count on the best experience possible with your Lustre powered high performance storage.

Intel produces vital maintenance releases for Lustre software and these are available through more than 150 Intel Lustre partners worldwide. You can get the security updates, patches, and drivers you need to keep your system compliant. A subscription to one of the Intel solutions for Lustre software will give you access to maintenance releases as well as ongoing support.
