DataDirect Networks lowers Big Data total cost of ownership & deployment with new NAS scaler file storage system enhancements

17 Apr 2012 Chatsworth - DataDirect Networks (DDN), a world expert in massively scalable storage, has made available the DDN NAS Scaler 1.1, the latest update to the company's highly-scalable, feature-rich unstructured data storage platform.

Introduced in April 2011, NAS Scaler enables customers to create a customized blend of capacity, throughput, and IOPS to align with specific applications, a breakthrough that eliminates both system and namespace sprawl and the costly over-provisioning found in other NAS systems. NAS Scaler 1.1 marks the introduction of VMware integration and data deduplication features, along with major enhancements in disaster recovery and multi-protocol file access capabilities to enable enterprise organisations to start small and then scale their Big Data applications with ease.

"NAS Scaler offers organisations around the world unprecedented flexibility in responding to today's rapidly growing - and oftentimes unpredictable - storage requirements", stated Jeff Denworth, Vice President of Marketing, DDN. "Adding comprehensive VMware integration to this solution makes it an even greater asset to our customers as they respond to the data deluge."

NAS Scaler has being shown at the NAB Show in Las Vegas, where the platform is especially optimized for organisations building collaborative work flows for playout, transcoding, and media distribution in one simple and scalable namespace. Around the world, organisations are selecting DDN's NAS Scaler system to simplify and scale their content-intensive infrastructures.

"TV Today selected NAS Scaler because it would allow us to meet immediate requirements of low-res edit/browsing in the production environment and also provide future scalability on throughput for high-res editing and near-line archival", stated Prince Sharma, Vice President-Technology of TV Today Networks in India. "This will also help synergize with other companies in our group to share content for multi-format delivery. The scalability with throughput will help in securing our investment for the future."

DDN NAS Scaler 1.1 is ideal for data-intensive VMware and VDI environments, providing a plug-in that integrates directly into vCenter - and is able to create thousands of space-efficient VM clones in just minutes. Coupled with efficient de-duplication, NAS Scaler provides a complete VMware storage platform.

NAS Scaler 1.1 is immediately available.
