Michael M. Resch was awarded title of professor honoris causa


14 Jan 2015 Stuttgart - On the occasion of his 50th birthday, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. h. c. Michael M. Resch, Director of the High Performance Computer Center Stuttgart (HLRS) and of the Institute for High Performance Computing of the University of Stuttgart, was awarded the title professor honoris causa by the Sibirian branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Akademgorodok/Novosibirsk. The award was delivered by the member of the Academy Prof. Yuri Shokin who praised Prof. Resch for his exemplary co-operation with Russian scientists during the last 12 years.

The honorary professorship was awarded to Professor Resch in recognition of his outstanding scientific activities and publications in the areas of High Performance Computing and Computer-Simulation. Prof. Shokin emphasized in particular the worldwide co-operations of Prof. Resch and his important role in international High Performance Computing.

The long-standing co-operation between Prof. Resch and the Institute of Computational Technologies of the Sibirian branch of the Russian Academy of the Sciences and the ensuing close collaboration between Russian and German scientists has been continuously expanded thanks to Prof. Resch's tireless efforts. They resulted e.g. in scientific exchange programmes and in regularly recurring workshops which are alternately held in Russia, Kazakhstan and Germany.
