New tender for the SURFnet8 service layer published

8 Dec 2016 Utrecht - The new tender for the SURFnet8 service layer was published on 1 December. SURFnet is looking for a partner that will provide network equipment and software for the SURFnet network service layer. Suppliers can respond to the tender until 31 January 2017.

The new tender procedure for the SURFnet8 service layer has now been opened for candidate qualification. The first tender was launched in June. Because there were not enough qualified parties for a competitive dialogue during the first tender procedure, SURFnet decided to start a new procedure.

The new tender has been online since 1 December. This new tender includes revised qualification criteria and explains the procedure itself in more detail in order to make sure that suppliers know exactly what SURFnet expects of them. The tender is once again a European, competitive dialogue procedure. During the dialogue phase, SURFnet will talk to every eligible tenderer to achieve the most suitable solution for the service layer.

The service layer needs to facilitate the automated rollout of services in a programmed, controlled environment to allow institutions to respond to developments in a quicker, more flexible way. To make this possible, SURFnet requests that the suppliers provide individual services, and software that can manage these services in an automated way.

Suppliers can respond to the tender until 31 January 2017. The service layer contract is expected to be signed in September 2017.
