PRACE announces Summer of HPC 2015 award winners

Award winners Alberto García García and Simos Kazantzidis with dr. Oriol Pineda, PRACE Member of the Board of Directors and dr. Leon Kos, University of Ljubljana, PRACE SoHPC 2015 Coordinator.16 Dec 2015 Barcelona - Two young researchers, recognised for their outstanding performance in the PRACE Summer of HPC 2015 programme, have been awarded. On 15 December 2015 the Summer of HPC awards ceremony took place at the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre (BSC), Spain where dr. Oriol Pineda, PRACE Member of the Board of Directors, presented awards to Alberto García García from Spain and to Simos Kazantzidis from Greece.

Alberto García García excelled in composing well-written blog posts that achieved a huge reach on a variety of social media channels, and doubled the SoHPC YouTube views. He also presented his results in a unique and interesting way that was clear, concise and entertaining for the target audience. His overall work on leading edge technology was of a very high quality.

Simos Kazantzidis achieved an elegant visualisation with an original combination of representations, creating an impressive and usable front-end with a combination of charts and 3D representations of molecules. The combination of 2D and 3D representations side by side, the interactivity and the effective use of colour produced a user interface that demonstrated routine ease of use for end users. Overall, his visualisation was of a high quality and represented an excellent technical achievement.

"We are very proud of the outstanding achievements by these young researchers", stated Dr. Leon Kos, University of Ljubljana, PRACE SoHPC 2015 Coordinator. "The PRACE SoHPC Awards Ceremony is an excellent opportunity to showcase these outstanding results. No doubt that this will be an important milestone in the careers of these young scientists."

If you would like to spend the summer working abroad at an European High Performance Computing (HPC) Centre, stay tuned for further information on opening date for applications at https://summerofhpc.prace-ri.eu/ .
