iomartcloud and Paragon Development Systems (PDS) to deliver back-up to the Cloud services based on VMware vSphere Data Protection 5.5 advanced

19 Nov 2013 Palo Alto - iomartcloud, part of European Cloud company, iomart Group plc, and Paragon Development Systems (PDS), both members of the VMware Service Provider Programme, will provide back-up to the Cloud services based on VMware vSphere Data Protection and VMware vSphere Data Protection Advanced. The companies join previously announced SunGard Availability Services in a growing ecosystem of service providers that will offer back-up to the Cloud services for VMware vSphere.

"Business continuity continues to be a key driver for the adoption of virtualization", stated Gaetan Castelein, senior director of product management, Storage and Availability, VMware. "VMware vSphere Data Protection is a simple, efficient, and robust back-up product developed specifically for VMware vSphere environments. With the new replication capabilities of VMware vSphere Data Protection 5.5 Advanced, customers can now protect their data both on-premises and in the Cloud. We're delighted that iomartcloud and PDS have chosen to partner with VMware to extend their Cloud back-up services with VMware vSphere Data Protection 5.5 Advanced."

Powered by EMC Avamar, VMware vSphere Data Protection 5.5 and VMware vSphere Data Protection 5.5 Advanced feature industry-leading storage-efficiency for back-ups, unique capabilities to accelerate recovery, and unparalleled integration with VMware vSphere. The new back-up replication feature in VMware vSphere Data Protection 5.5 Advanced works out-of-the-box to copy back-ups of data into the Cloud through network-efficient, encrypted replication, without requiring add-on licensing or additional infrastructure components like WAN accelerators. Service providers can now build out these new back-up to the Cloud offerings with the general availability of VMware vSphere Data Protection 5.5 Advanced.

"Business continuity is vital for all organizations no matter their size", stated Bill Strain, director of iomartcloud. "We are using the best virtualization and data protection technologies from VMware and EMC to create the security they need to guard against individual system failure, as well as a full blown data disaster. As a partner, we are proud to be able to deliver another simple yet innovative option for VMware customers who require SLA-backed protection for their mission-critical data. iomartcloud will offer a fully integrated option for customers of VMware vSphere Data Protection 5.5 Advanced to either back-up their data off-site or choose a full Disaster Recovery option for their mission-critical data."

"We are excited to join forces with VMware to deliver efficient and reliable Cloud-based services for our small and medium-sized customers in health care, corporate, government and education industries", stated Austin Park, CTO, PDS. "The unique capabilities of VMware vSphere Data Protection 5.5 Advanced, such as the variable-length deduplication technology used for back-ups and replication, will allow us to deliver WAN-optimized, secure back-ups to the PDS Cloud Extension Centers, allowing our customers to protect their data while reducing costs."

VMware vSphere Data Protection 5.5 Advanced is now generally available and is priced at $1,095 per processor with no restrictions on number of protected VMs per license.
