Cavium unveils Flash support for the Cavium ThunderX processor family

13 Jul 2015 Frankfurt - Cavium Inc., a provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for enterprise, data centre, Cloud, wired and wireless networking, has added support for SanDisk flash memory solutions with Cavium’s 64-bit ThunderX processor family, to accelerate the performance of Hyperscale and HPC workloads.

"Our ARMv8 ThunderX processors deliver best-in-class performance for high-intensity workloads such as HPC, Big Data, and large-scale web applications. With up to 48 high-performance cores and integrated accelerators, we help drive faster results and reduced TCO", stated Steve Cumings, Director, Market Development, Cavium. "SanDisk is a leader in flash technology and we look forward to working with them to deliver best-in-class solutions."

SanDisk delivers innovative data centre storage solutions ranging from Solid State Drives (SSDs) to PCIe application accelerators and storage systems. These solutions accelerate performance of servers and storage arrays supporting Cloud, Big Data and database workloads, and market research data shows that flash technology is being rapidly adopted across all computing tiers. Each solution enables faster processing - and faster time-to-results - as customers seek to address the gap between increasing processor speeds and slow-moving hard disk drive (HDD) storage.

The ThunderX family includes multiple SKUs that are board-compatible, enabling servers optimized for compute, storage, network and security.
