Bull announces the creation of BUX, the Bull User group for eXtreme Computing

21 Jun 2011 Hamburg - Bull and seven Founding Members have created the Bull User group for eXtreme Computing (BUX) on 20 June 2011, at ISC'11 in Hamburg. BUX is an independent worldwide group of users that will co-operate to increase the capabilities of the large-scale, parallel scientific and technical computing solutions supplied by Bull, to promote the exchange of information and understanding of these systems, and to provide guidance to Bull on the essential development and support issues for large-scale technical systems. Bull, as an Affiliate, is committed to supporting this new user group.

BUX has grown out of the increase over the past few months in the number of Bull customers wanting to share their experiences and actively propose new ideas and initiatives and, as a result, to help ensure that Bull and its offerings secure a leading position in the Extreme Computing market.

The objectives of BUX are:

  • Sharing of experience between members and with Bull
  • Giving Bull direct feedback and input, and helping to set priorities for the Group in terms of technology, service and support
  • Networking with Bull HPC experts during BUX events
  • Highlighting emerging technologies and helping foster long-term developments.

The founding members include such organisations as:

  • Atomic Weapons Establishment (UK)
  • Barcelona Supercomputing Center (Spain)
  • CEA, the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives)
  • The Juelich Research Center (Forschungszentrum Juelich - Germany)
  • GENCI, the French National High-Performance Computing organisation (Grand Equipement National de Calcul Intensif)
  • The Cologne University Regional Research Center (Regionales Rechenzentrum der Universitaet zu Koeln, Germany)
  • RWTH Aachen University (Rheinisch-Westfaelische Technische Hochschule Aachen - Germany).
Pascal Barbolosi, VP, Extreme Computing, Bull, commented: "Bull is delighted to witness the birth of the Bull User group for eXtreme computing, thanks to the commitment of our major customers. We fully support this initiative, which will contribute to increased networking between Bull users, as well as between Bull itself and our HPC user community."
