Supermicro starts integration service in Europe and showcases twin architecture advances at ISC 2010

31 May 2010 Hamburg - Super Micro Computer Inc., a global expert in server technology innovation and green computing, has formally opened its Netherlands system integration logistics centre to better service its European customers. Driven by strong demand from the company's entire EMEA customer base, Supermicro just doubled its logistics capacity last year.

"The additional value of a local European system integration facility to produce Supermicro's advanced technology systems gives our customers localized supply and time to market advantages as well as a more competitive solution", stated Charles Liang, CEO and president of Supermicro. "We are pleased to increase the competitive advantages for our EMEA customers and to meet their dynamic demands for

application-optimized solutions."

At ISC'10, Supermicro is demonstrating new servers optimized with high-performance features such as four GbE ports, dual 10GbE ports, 18 DIMMs and 6Gb/s SAS 2.0 along with its latest Twin system architecture advancements. These Twin systems include Supermicro's award-winning TwinBlade with 20 dual-processor (DP) nodes in 7U, the industry's leading lineup of GPU servers optimized for the new NVIDIA Tesla 20-series GPUs, and new multi-node 2U Twin and 1U Twin servers.

With Supermicro's innovative architecture and resource sharing, including the enclosure, cooling subsystem and switches, the TwinBlade doubles the number of dual-processor (DP) server nodes to 20 per 7U, for an incredibly dense and cost-effective 0.35U per node. This breakthrough blade design leverages the successful Twin architecture to provide optimal performance, density and value. Recently, the innovative TwinBlade won the Best Blade-Based Solution award at the 4th annual BladeSystems Insight Summit 2010. Supporting dual 40Gb/s QDR InfiniBand switches, this optimized blade solution features industry-leading redundant 94% power supply efficiency, making it the greenest, most power-efficient server solution in the world today.

Supermicro's GPU product line includes the world's fastest 1U server, a 4U/tower that supports four double-width GPUs along with three additional PCI-e cards for high-bandwidth I/O, and a 2U Twin with two hot-pluggable GPU nodes and redundant power. This product line features both Intel Xeon 5600 Series (Westmere) processors and AMD Opteron 6100 Series (Socket G34) 8/12-Core processors. These systems also feature advanced remote monitoring and management capabilities, multiple x16 non-blocking native PCI-E 2.0 connectivity, and 1400-watt Gold Level (93%+ efficiency) power supplies. With Supermicro's advanced thermal designs, these highly parallel, multi-GPU supercomputers are optimized for graphics and computationally intensive applications in fields such as medical imaging, oil and gas exploration, quantum chemistry, financial simulation, genomics and astrophysics.

With four hot-plug DP nodes in a 2U form factor, Supermicro's 2U Twin2 delivers world-class performance and energy efficiency in a small but powerful package. The 2U Twin with two hot-swap motherboard modules in 2U supports two PCI-E 2.0 full-height, full-length add-on cards per node, and it can support one double-width GPU card per node and provides six hot-swap 3.5" SAS/SATA hard drive bays per 1U server node. Supermicro's Twin system architecture offers the most advanced HPC solutions in the world.
