Highlights include summaries of the e-IRG Delegates Meetings under the Romanian EU Presidency which took place in Brussels, Belgium and at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland, and of the Special Edition of the e-IRG Open Workshop in Vienna, Austria with as special guest Ms. Rahel Fidel from the Ethiopian Ministry of Science and Technology.
The magazine provides an overview of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) developments that were addressed at the EOSC Symposium in Budapest, Hungary; at the EOSC Concertation Meeting in Brussels, Belgium; and at the EOSC Community Event in Tallinn, Estonia. In addition, there is an article on a report issued by the Science|Business Cloud Consultation Group, entitled "Building a Sustainable Science Cloud". The report considers how the EU's new European Open Science Cloud can become a compelling and financially viable proposition for researchers and service providers alike.
This e-IRG Magazine edition also contains interviews with Mark Parsons from EPCC in Edinburgh on the UK exascale computer plans; with Jean-Marc Denis from Atos and Chairman of the Board for the European Processor Initiative; with the NEXTGenIO project partners Tiago Quintino, Michele Weiland and Adrian Jackson about the development of a brand new system with revolutionary memory for better performance that dissolves I/O bottlenecks; and a summary of European Commission Officer Jiri Pilar's presentation about the Public Sector Information Directive, held at the e-IRG Workshop in Geneva, Switzerland.
Further more, there are items about the integration of the EOSC catalogue services in the e-IRG Knowledge Base; and an overview of the research infrastructure and e-Infrastructure developments in the different European countries. Last but not least, there is the announcement of e-IRG's new Chair Paolo Budroni. His chairmanship will start on January 1st 2020, for a period of three years.
