Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (ITTM) to install 6,8 Petflop/s supercomputer in January 2018

20 Nov 2017 - Prof. Ravi S. Nanjundiah, Director IITM, told during his welcome address of the 56th Foundation Day Celebration at IITM, that the fastest supercomputer in India will be installed in the Institute by January 2018. The superomputer will be five to six times faster than the current fastest supercomputer, which is installed at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, which is 228th in the current TOP500 list. The combined processing speed of the new supercomputer will be nearly 6.8 Petaflops. The supercomputer will also help increase the speed and accuracy of monsoon forecasts, said Prof. Ravi Nanjundiah.
