Spanish Supercomputing Network will provide 74 million of computing hours to researchers next quarter

29 Jun 2017 Madrid - The Spanish Supercomputing Network (RES) will provide 74 million of computing hours to researchers during the next quarter. The Access Committee has accepted 107 projects, and the awarded researchers will have access to RES resources from 1 July to 31 October.

The RES Access Committee has published the list of accepted activities for the next period. The RES will offer 74 million CPU hours to 107 research projects, from the 123 applications received. In this call, the amount of awarded computing time has been significantly increased in comparison with the 40 million hours offered previously. This increase is mainly due to Marenostrum4 in Barcelona Supercomputing Center, which will be operative from tomorrow. In addition, the new processors have a greater capacity per unit of time, and the RES now has a total peak performance of 12 PFlop/s.

Among all the awarded activities, most of the resources have been granted to research projects in Physics, Mathematics and Engineering; and in Chemistry and Materials Science and Technology. More than 80% of CPU hours requested by users have been granted. The hours should be used from 1 July to 31 October.
