Docker donates container technology to Open Containers standard

A broad coalition of companies and users are joining forces to create the Open Container Project (OCP)/ This was announced at the DOCKERCON conference in San Francisio. The Open Container Project is chartered to establish common standards for software containers.
Several HPC-in-the-Cloud and Crowd computing initiatives, including The Ubercloud and Nerdalize, are already deploying Docker. Hence, having open standards around container technology could have a big impact on HPC.
Amazon Web Services, Apcera, Cisco, CoreOS, Docker, EMC, Fujitsu Limited, Goldman Sachs, Google, HP, Huawei, IBM, Intel, Joyent, Linux Foundation, Mesosphere, Microsoft, Pivotal, Rancher Labs, Red Hat and VMware will create standards around container format and runtime environment in Open Container.
