Chinese scientists developed a quantum computer faster than the earliest classical computers from the mid 20th century

4 May 2017 - Chinese scientists from the CAS-Alibaba Quantum Computing Laboratory, University of Science and Technology of China, Shanghai together with scientists from Germany, Universitat Würzburg, and the UK, University of St Andrews have developed a photon based quantum computer that is 24.000 times faster than systems in previous experiments. The system is faster than the first classical computers of mid-last century.

The system was announced at a press conference in China. The article is published in Nature Photonics.
