Pre-exascale candidate hosting consortium from Spain and Portugal expanded with Croatia and Turkey
5 Apr 2019 Barcelona - According to the Barcelona Supercomputing Center two additional countries have committed their support to BSC's candidacy. Turkey and Croatia will become members of the consortium that will build and manage the supercomputer together with Spain and Portugal. Ireland will also support the proposal and remains open to the possibility of joining the consortium in the future. The regional Catalan government and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia also support the proposal as BSC shareholders.
Turkey has become participating country of the EuroHPC JU in the very last moment to be in time to participate in the Consortium.
The Spanish lead consortium competes against two other consortia, one led by Finland and another by Italy. See the figure for the pre-exascale and exascale candidate countries.
