Piz Daint CSCS supercomputer shows where the Earth is humming and whistling
19 Jan 2016 Lugano - Simone Ulmer highlights the use of the Piz Daint CSCS supercomputer in analyzing where the Earth is humming and whistling. The Earth is constantly in motion, like a vibrating bell. Natural forces are the origin of these vibrations, which are registered by seismometers as a kind of humming and whistling. Although there is still a debate about the trigger of the hum, its sources have now been mapped by researchers at ETH Zurich using the Piz Daint CSCS supercomputer.
