Exascale supercomputing

Atos, a global expert in digital transformation, has introduced its new BullSequana X2415, the first supercomputer in Europe to integrate NVIDIA's Ampere next-generation graphics processing unit architecture, the NVIDIA A100 Tensor Core GPU. This new supercomputer blade will deliver unprecedented computing power to boost application performance for HPC and AI workloads, tackling the challenges of the exascale era. The BullSequana X2415 blade will increase computing power by more than 2 and optimize energy consumption thanks to Atos' 100% highly efficient water-cooled patented Direct Liquid Cooling (DLC) solution, which uses warm water to cool the machine. Quantum computing

In order to advance application-oriented research on quantum computing, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is founding a national network on quantum computing with regional centres in seven German states. The first centre to start is the Competence Center "Quantum Computing Baden-Württemberg". The federal state government will support the centre with up to 40 million euro over the next four years. Fraunhofer IAF takes over the coordinative management of the Competence Center Baden-Württemberg together with Fraunhofer IAO. Read further...
ADVA is playing a key role in a unique research initiative extending post-quantum security to VPN networks. Leveraging the ADVA FSP 150 with ConnectGuard Ethernet encryption, the Quantum-Secure VPN Modules and Operation Modes (QuaSiModO) project is testing new quantum-resistant algorithms in the packet domain. It will develop viable security solutions that can protect Layer 2 and 3 data against all forms of cyberattack, including those from quantum computers. By participating in the initiative, ADVA is extending its industry-leading work with quantum-safe cryptography in optical transport to higher network layers. A new machine learning tool can calculate the energy required to make - or break - simple molecules with higher accuracy than conventional methods. Scientists around the world are intensively working on memristive devices, which are capable in extremely low power operation and behave similarly to neurons in the brain. Researchers from the Jülich Aachen Research Alliance (JARA) and the German technology group Heraeus have now discovered how to systematically control the functional behaviour of these elements. The smallest differences in material composition are found crucial: differences so small that until now experts had failed to notice them. The researchers' design directions could help to increase variety, efficiency, selectivity and reliability for memristive technology-based applications, for example for energy-efficient, non-volatile storage devices or neuro-inspired computers.
