The agreement will enable SiPearl to benefit from the high-performance, secure, and scalable next-generation Arm Neoverse platform, codenamed "Zeus", as well as leverage the robust software and hardware Arm ecosystem. Quantum computing is increasingly becoming the focus of scientists in fields such as physics and chemistry, and industrialists in the pharmaceutical, airplane, and automobile industries. Globally, research labs at companies like Google and IBM are spending extensive resources on improving quantum computers, and with good reason. Quantum computers use the fundamentals of quantum mechanics to process significantly greater amounts of information much faster than classical computers. The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded over $680.000 to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to further develop the Einstein Toolkit. The project focuses on improving the cyberinfrastructure framework provided by Einstein Toolkit, an accessible community-driven open source ecosystem that provides computational tools to advance research in relativistic astrophysics and gravitational physics. High performance computing (HPC) industry analyst firm Hyperion Research has released its updated analysis of the potential impact areas of the Covid-19 pandemic on the HPC market based on recent discussions with HPC system vendors and buyers. There is a large variation in the impacts of the virus for different segments of the HPC market. Hyperion Research is developing a detailed analysis of these impacts in order to create updated forecasts for HPC servers, AI, ML, DL, and public Cloud spending for running HPC workloads. Ann Redelfs, who joined the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) at UC San Diego in 1995 as the Center's director of external relations before returning to Cornell University in 2001, passed away on April 18 in Duluth, Minnesota, due to complications from a blood clotting disorder. Fujitsu has received an order for a supercomputer system from the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), as the organisation plans to expand its use in the HPC field in addition to conventional numerical simulations. Scheduled to start operation in October 2020, the new computing system for large-scale numerical simulation, composed of Fujitsu Supercomputer PRIMEHPC FX1000, is expected to have a theoretical computational performance of 19,4 petaflops, which is approximately 5,5 times that of the current system. At the same time, Fujitsu will implement 465 nodes of x86 servers Fujitsu Server PRIMERGY series for general-purpose systems that can handle diverse computing needs. Read further...

Papka, director of the Data, Devices, and Interaction Laboratory (ddiLab), as a 2020 Presidential Research, Scholarship and Artistry Professor. The award is the university's top recognition for outstanding research or artistry. Recent research has suggested that climate, and in particular temperature and humidity, may influence the spread of COVID-19. For example, Wang et al. (2020) reported that "high temperature and high humidity significantly reduce the transmission of COVID-19". Similarly, Sajadi et al. (2020) found that COVID-19 "has established significant community spread in cities and regions along a narrow east west distribution roughly along the 30-50°N corridor at consistently similar weather patterns consisting of average temperatures of 5-11°C, combined with low specific humidity (3-6 g/kg)". The EU Copernicus Climate Change Service has used these results to map regions where climate conditions are considered to be more conducive to the spread of COVID-19, alongside regional mortality data.
