Researchers at the Tokyo Medical and Dental University (TMDU), RIKEN, and the University of Tokyo propose an improved method for isolating the qubits in a quantum computer from the external environment, which may help usher in the era of practical quantum computing. They have shown theoretically how coupling an additional filter qubit to the control line of a quantum computer can greatly increase the lifetime of the information stored in it. Zapata Computing, an enterprise software company for quantum applications, has announced a strategic investment from Honeywell Ventures, the venture capital arm of Honeywell. The investment will fuel continued enhancements to Zapata Computing's platform and increase its ability to support its global customers. Prior to today's investment, Zapata Computing has been developing quantum solutions in a technical collaboration with Honeywell, which announced plans today to be releasing a powerful trapped-ion quantum computer within the next three months. The University of Ulm has a new high-performance computer. With a theoretical performance of 2 petaflops, the 4,4 million euro supercomputer JUSTUS 2 sets new standards. On March 6th, Ministerial Director Ulrich Steinbach, State Ministry for Science, Research and Art, and Ulm University President Professor Michael Weber, among others, pressed the symbolic start button. Mellanox Technologies Ltd., a supplier of high-performance, end-to-end smart interconnect solutions for data centre servers and storage systems, has reached a definitive agreement to acquire privately held Titan IC, a developer of network intelligence (NI) and security technology to accelerate search and Big Data analytics across a broad range of applications in data centres worldwide. The acquisition will further strengthen Mellanox's network intelligence capabilities delivered through the company's advanced ConnectX and BlueField families of SmartNIC and I/O Processing Unit (IPU) solutions. Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) will deliver the world's fastest exascale-class supercomputer for the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) at a record-breaking speed of 2 exaflops - 10x faster than today's most powerful supercomputer. The new system, which the DOE's Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has named El Capitan, is expected to be delivered in early 2023 and will be managed and hosted by LLNL for use by the three NNSA national laboratories: LLNL, Sandia National Laboratories and Los Alamos National Laboratory. The system will enable advanced simulation and modelling to support the U.S. nuclear stockpile and ensure its reliability and security. Read further...
Semiconductor start-up Tachyum Inc. has retained Stephen Dilbeck full time to serve as the company's Senior Director, System on Chip, to complete physical design through tape-out of Tachyum's Prodigy chip.
