The EuroHPC Summit Week 2019 closed successfully and gathered the main HPC stakeholders from 13 May to 17 May 2019 in Poznan, Poland. The entire week was organised by PRACE, EXDCI-2 and ETP4HPC. PRACE's Polish Member, the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC), hosted the EuroHPC Summit Week. Excelero, a disruptor in software-defined block storage, and ThinkParQ announced that their joint go-to-market relationship is bearing fruit and the firms have successfully integrated Excelero's NVMesh software-defined block storage solution for shared NVMe at local latency along with ThinkParQ's parallel cluster file system BeeGFS. Benchmark results from early deployments spotlight the maximum resource utilization and flexibility that are possible from combining the two solutions - performance that is perfectly suited for data-intensive workloads such as high performance computing (HPC), AI, ML, and analytics. Tachyum Inc. has successfully deployed the Linux OS on its Prodigy Universal Processor architecture, a foundation for 64-core, ultra-low power, high-performance processor. Running an OS directly and natively on its chip, without the need for host processors or other expensive components, reduces the cost of at-scale data centres and enables nearly unlimited flexibility in use. This development is a significant milestone on Tachyum's roadmap to supplying hyperscale data centers and ODM partners with high-performance, power-efficient, scalable processing muscle for data centre, Cloud, AI/ML, in memory processing, and HPC environments at a fraction of the cost of the competition. In April 2019, approximately 40 engineers and researchers from around the country attended Texas ADCIRC - ADvanced CIRCulation Model - Week, an event designed to bring together practitioners from the public and private sector working on coastal modelling with a particular emphasis on coastal hazards, including hurricanes. DJI, a global expert in civilian drones and aerial imaging technology, has launched Manifold 2, an ultra-compact onboard supercomputer for DJI drones that enables the next-generation of autonomous aerial robotics solutions. With the additional compute capability of Manifold 2, users can process complex image data onboard the drone and get results immediately, and can program drones to fly autonomously while identifying objects and avoiding obstacles. Computing the dynamics of many interacting quantum particles accurately is a daunting task. There is however a promising calculation method for such systems: tensor networks, which are being researched in the theory division at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics. The initial focus of tensor network was on quantum particles restricted to a lattice, just as they occur in crystals for example, or in the quantum registers of future quantum computers. In a new paper, the postdoctoral researcher Antoine Tilloy and the theory division director Ignacio Cirac managed to extend this approach to the continuum. A goal in the long run is an elegant calculation method for the quantum field theories that describes the basic forces of physics. Read further...

In a study that combines experimental work and theoretical calculations made possible by supercomputers, scientists have determined the nuclear geometry of two isotopes of boron.
