Scientists from the U.S. Department of Energy's Brookhaven National Laboratory, Stony Brook University, and DOE's Energy Sciences Network (ESnet) are collaborating on an experiment that puts U.S. quantum networking research on the international map. Researchers have built a quantum network testbed that connects several buildings on the Brookhaven Lab campus using unique portable quantum entanglement sources and an existing DOE ESnet communications fiber network - a significant step in building a large-scale quantum network that can transmit information over long distances. The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Brookhaven National Laboratory has joined the IBM Q Network Hub at DOE's Oak Ridge National Laboratory. This hub is part of an international community of Fortune 500 companies, startups, universities, and research labs that is working with IBM to advance quantum computing and explore its practical applications. Taurus Group BV has acquired the Dutch HPC specialist ClusterVision. The group has purchased all of ClusterVision's assets and intellectual property. A core team from the former ClusterVision entity will form the basis of a new company. Taurus will continue ClusterVision's activities in HPC including the development of TrinityX - an open source high performance computing cluster management eco-system and its support services. The new company will run under the leadership of original ClusterVision founder Mr. Alex Ninaber. Read further...

Spectra Logic has launched several new tape enhancements to its family of tape libraries that help end users simplify and enhance their workflows. Spectra now offers Spectra Swarm, which adds Ethernet connectivity to Spectra LTO tape libraries. Spectra Swarm makes tape connectivity easier and adds a modern interface to LTO tape libraries by leveraging all of the same infrastructure and networking capabilities as the rest of the equipment in a modern data centre. Working with RIKEN, Fujitsu Limited has completed the design of Post-K, the successor to the K supercomputer. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) is aiming to start the public service of Post-K around 2021 or 2022. Fujitsu has now concluded an official contract with RIKEN to manufacture, ship, and install hardware for Post-K. In addition, Fujitsu will productize a commercial supercomputer using technology created in the Post-K development process, and plans to begin global sales in the second half of fiscal 2019. The widely used CyberInfrastructure for Phylogenetic REsearch (CIPRES) science gateway, based at the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) at UC San Diego, has been awarded a one-year Internet2 grant funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). The grant will let gateway users take advantage of more powerful compute processors available from a commercial cloud provider to accelerate their scientific discoveries. Read further...
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and Nutanix have signed a global partnership to deliver an integrated hybrid Cloud as a Service (aaS) solution to the market. This offering will leverage Nutanix's Enterprise Cloud OS software including its built-in, free AHV hypervisor, delivered through HPE GreenLake to provide customers with a fully HPE-managed hybrid Cloud that dramatically lowers total cost of ownership and accelerates time to value.
