Fujitsu Limited and TC3 K.K., a Japanese provider of services that utilizes Topcoder, a developer and data scientist community with over 1.38 million registered members, have announced a contest that will enable members to access, develop, and build solutions using Fujitsu's quantum-inspired Digital Annealer, to solve a complex combinatorial optimization problem currently unsolvable by conventional computers in practical timeframe. Through this contest, to be held from February to March 2019, Fujitsu and TC3 aim to further increase Digital Annealer technology adoption, leveraging Topcoder as a collaborative platform for solving an array of challenging problems, and spearheading cutting-edge technology originating from Japan. The Khronos Group, an open consortium of hardware and software companies creating advanced acceleration standards, is requesting for industry feedback to gauge interest in developing a new low-level, heterogeneous communications open standard that could transform the way applications are developed for High Performance Embedded Computing (HPEC) systems. If there is industry support, then Khronos would create a working group and invite any interested company to participate for a voice and a vote in creating and evolving a multi-vendor standard under Khronos' proven multi-company governance process. Excelero, a disruptor in software-defined block storage, concluded fiscal year (FY) 2018 on December 31 with a 4x increase in revenue compared to FY 2017 - which itself was 4x the revenues of FY 2016. The number of new customers for Excelero's NVMesh solution, which enables shared NVMe Flash at local performance, grew 3x compared to new customers in 2017. Excelero sold thousands of licenses to hyperscale Web giants during 2018, with its revenue split evenly between these "web monsters" and OEM-led deals by such global strategic partners as Supermicro and Lenovo, and savvy regional resellers and system integrators including Arcastream, CMA and Pixit Media who package Excelero's solutions into total solutions for a variety of verticals. A Japanese research group has identified a giant streak structure among the clouds covering planet Venus based on observation from the spacecraft Akatsuki. The team also revealed the origins of this structure using large-scale climate simulations. The group was led by Project Assistant Professor Hiroki Kashimura, Kobe University, Graduate School of Science, and these findings were published on January 9 inNature Communications. Untold Studios, an independent creative studio community based in the UK, is using the WekaIO Matrix file system on Amazon Web Services (AWS) to manage its visual effects (VFX) workflow. The company chose Matrix because it is Cloud-native, built on AWS, and doesn't require a big CapEx investment to spin up. These two new nodes, TO22-Z61 and TO22-Z62, feature dual AMD EPYC Naples processor sockets for compute nodes with high core counts and impressive memory capacity, and offer flexible storage options - all flash or mixed SATA / SAS + flash - and the availability of up to 3 additional PCIe expansion slots. Each node is designed to fit into a three bay, 2OU tray.
