Announced at the SuperComputing19 conference in Denver, USA, Intel and Lenovo have established a new Project Everyscale, of which NCI is a founding member. Alongside other supercomputing centres around the world including Harvard University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences Research Computing unit, Germany's Leibniz Supercomputing Centre, and the University of Toronto's SciNet supercomputing centre, NCI will be part of this visionary exascale council dedicated to driving the broad adoption of exascale technology for organisations of all sizes. Focus on Europe

ADVA is hosting a joint showcase with Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center (PSNC) at SC19 that features the industry's first 1200Gbit/s optical channel transmission. Built upon the ADVA FSP 3000 TeraFlex terminal, the demo underscores the power of adaptive technology to maximize bandwidth efficiency in any network scenario. Using fractional QAM capabilities to boost fiber utilization and channel capacity, the demo highlights how network operators and enterprises can cost-effectively inject capacity into their networks without major upgrades. At SC19, TeraFlex will carry 1200Gbit/s channels in a 150GHz window or 800Gbit/s channels in a 100GHz window, delivering an industry-leading spectral efficiency of 8bit/s/Hz. Mellanox Technologies Ltd., a supplier of high-performance, end-to-end smart interconnect solutions for data centre servers and storage systems, announced that 200 gigabit per second HDR InfiniBand has been selected by Eni, a global energy company, to accelerate HPC5 - the world's most powerful industrial supercomputer. The HPC5 supercomputer will deliver three times higher performance compared to the existing 100 gigabit EDR InfiniBand HCP4 supercomputer platform. HPC5 will allow generating faster data analysis during Eni operations, and will further accelerate Eni research and development of non-fossil energy sources, as well as support exploration, development and monitoring of oil fields during all stages. Mellanox Technologies Ltd.'s 200G HDR InfiniBand was selected to accelerate the new high performance computing (HPC) infrastructure at the IT4Innovations National Supercomputing Center at VSB - Technical University of Ostrava, Czech Republic. IT4Innovations was recently selected by the European High-Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC) as one of the eight sites to host the next generation of European supercomputers, boosting Europe's competitiveness in the digital area. Liqid, provider of the world's most comprehensive composable infrastructure platform, has signed a collaboration with Western Digital to demonstrate NVMe over Fabrics (NVMe-oF), leveraging Liqid's software to manage the OpenFlex open composable platform across low-latency Ethernet fabrics. Liqid Command Center 2.2 software also composes the OpenFlex platform in tandem with GPU and CPU resources up and down the hardware rack and across multiple racks for multi-petabyte storage capacity at NVMe speeds. TMGcore, a provider of data centre solutions and manufacturer of data centre hardware, has unveiled its evolutionary technology, OTTO, a completely automated, self-contained, two-phase liquid immersion-cooled data centre platform (2PLIC) that features a closed loop system, uses zero water and is a tenth of the size of a traditional data centre. HDR InfiniBand ConnectX-6 adapters, Mellanox Quantum switches and LinkX cables and transceivers will interconnect nearly 5000 Atos BullSequana server blades and NetApp storage platforms, delivering high throughput and extremely low latency connectivity. CSC's Puhti supercomputer ranked slightly lower on the latest biannual supercomputer TOP500 list. Puhti is now number 232 with performance of 1,7 petaflops. The maximum performance is measured by the Linpack Benchmark and Puhti's figure includes all CPU nodes but not GPU nodes. Read further...
