A*STAR Computational Resource Centre and Obsidian have teamed up in the InfiniCortex project. Their aim is to create a geographically distributed Supercomputer of Supercomputers based on global collaboration between HPC clusters partnering to form the Galaxy. The initiative is based on high capacity transmission facilities, novel applications of long distance InfiniBand and advances in the application of graph theory. International Data Corporation (IDC) has made available the first in-depth forecasts for high performance data analysis (HPDA), the fast-growing worldwide market for Big Data workloads that use high performance computing (HPC) resources. IDC forecasts that the server market for HPDA will grow rapidly at 23.5% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) to reach $2.7 billion in 2018 and the related storage market will expand to about $1.6 billion in the same year. TOP500

InfiniBand is the most deployed interconnect solution on the TOP500 list of supercomputers. The number of InfiniBand-based supercomputers increased 8.3 percent year-over-year to 222, representing 44.4 percent of the TOP500. Mellanox InfiniBand is the only Petascale-proven, standard interconnect solution, connecting 24 out of the 48 Petaflop capable systems on the list. Overall, the number of Mellanox FDR InfiniBand connected systems grew 1.9x from June 2013 to June 2014, connecting 127 systems, showing the increased demand for higher performance, scalability and efficiency. Intel Corporation has launched new details for its next-generation Intel Xeon Phi processors, code-named Knights Landing, which promise to extend the benefits of code modernization investments being made for current generation products. These include a new high-speed fabric that will be integrated on-package and high-bandwidth, on-package memory that combined, promise to accelerate the rate of scientific discovery. Echostreams Innovative Solutions LLC has introduced the proof-of-concept for an all-SSD Demo-Flash Storage Solution for High-Performance-Computing at the International Supercomputing Conference 2014, reaching 2 million transactions per minute running Oracle RAC 12c performance test. The benchmark test at Orange Silicon Valley consists of five commodity servers running Oracle 12c Real Application Cluster software, CacheIO FlashCache Appliance based on Echostreams patented FlacheSAN2 flash server, and commodity iSCSI array.
