As we approach the Exascale supercomputing era, the failure of compute nodes will become commonplace. The AllScale project initiated a survey to determine how software developers, in the field of HPC, view fault tolerance today, if at all, and how they plan to incorporate fault tolerance in their software in the Exascale era. The Minister for Education & Skills Richard Bruton and ICHEC launched a competition in a bid to name Ireland's newest supercomputer which will be made available to all Irish researchers. The supercomputer will be installed in 2018. The system will provide Irish researchers with the supercomputing power to address some of the toughest challenges in science and society such as tackling climate change, improving health care and innovating Irish products through agriculture, engineering and manufacturing.
