Prof. Ravi S. Nanjundiah, Director IITM, told during his welcome address of the 56th Foundation Day Celebration at IITM, that the fastest supercomputer in India will be installed in the Institute by January 2018. The superomputer will be five to six times faster than the current fastest supercomputer, which is installed at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, which is 228th in the current TOP500 list. The combined processing speed of the new supercomputer will be nearly 6.8 Petaflops. The supercomputer will also help increase the speed and accuracy of monsoon forecasts, said Prof. Ravi Nanjundiah. Blazenka Divjak, Croatian Minister for Science and Education, signs for Republic of Croatia the Declaration Cooperation framework on High Performance Computing (EuroHPC ), in the presence of Roberto Viola, Director General DG Connect; European Commission. Croatia is the 13th country joining the EuroHPC declaration. Goal of this HPC collaboration is to bring Europe back on the front row of exascale supercompuitng by 2022. Read further...
