PRACE provided scientists with supercomputer power to simulate the solar wind around the earth. This is reported by ScienceNode. Vlasiator, a new simulation developed by Minna Palmroth, professor in computational space physics at the University of Helsinki, models the entire magnetosphere of the Sun. It helps scientists to better understand interesting and hard-to-predict phenomena that occur in near-Earth space weather. After being awarded several highly competitive grants from the European Research Council, Palmroth secured computation time on HPC resources managed by the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe (PRACE).
