As part of its investment to modernize weather-forecasting infrastructure the Governement of Canada awarded a contract this past May to IBM Canada Ltd. to design, build, renew, and host a state-of-the-art, high-performance computing (HPC) solution, in the area of Montreal, Quebec. The European Commission announced that Thomas Skordas was appointed Director for Digital Excellence and Science Infrastructure. He manages five units: 1. e-Infrastructure and Science Cloud; 2. High Performance Computing and Quantum Technology; 3. Future and Emerging Technologies (FET); 4. Flagships (Human Brain and Graphene); 5. Fostering Novel Ideas: FET-Open.
