Exascale

Satoshi Matsuoka pointed out to the HPC community that the Japanese Nikkei newspaper writes the Post K supercomputer developed in the Flagship2020 project will be delayed by one or two years. The system was aimed at reaching pre-exascale in 2020 (110 times faster than the original K supercomputer). The machine will be based on ARM processors. According to Nikkei, the delay, due to "semiconductor" problems, will not lead to a change in budget (about 1 billion euro). The new Fujitsu-ARM based vector chip to be used in the Post K would be explained in detail at the HotChips conference next week in Cuportino, U.S.A.
