On the TOP500 blog, Michael Feldman provides some background on the merger of the TOP500 and Green500 lists: "It should not really come as a surprise that the Green500 and TOP500 projects have joined forces, as it were, and unified reporting of the fastest systems in the world. From now on, there will be a single interface to report supercomputing performance and energy efficiency. The two lists themselves will remain separate and on separate websites, at least for the time being, but the submission rules have been integrated." So it will not really be a merger: only the presentation will be somewhat streamlined. Read further...

The Dutch government has announced a 134 million investment in "Toekomstfondskrediet". The investments are actually long term loans (15 year) to research facilities. By offering services to industries the facilities should be able to repay the loans. SURFsara gets slightly over 11 million euro (11.125.000 euro) for a project called "RekenDeltaPlan" (Computing Delta Plan). The total investment for RekenDeltaPlan is 22.250.000 euro. Read further...
