The European Commission has named the members of the evaluation panel that will access the two multi-billion FET Flagships projects Human Brain Project (HBP) and Graphene. FET flagships are ambitious, highly-risky, long term and large scale research and innovation initiatives. The Human Brain project aims at simulating the human brain in a computer. This requires massive supercomputing, even beyond exascale. This was announced by EC research director Thierry Van Der Pyl. Alison Kennedy joins the STFC Hartree Centre as its new Director. She is currently the Executive Director of Operations at the Edinburgh Parallel Computing Centre (EPCC). She brings to Hartree a wealth of experience in leading high performance computing projects within the UK and internationally from her roles at EPCC, in industry and as the current Managing Director and Chair of the Board of Directors of PRACE (the Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe).
