David Chernicoff describes in Data Centre Dynamics his trip to a bitcoin mining centre from Borealis in Iceland that looked more like a chicken farm. "On arrival at the building, on property that was formerly part of the NATO airbase in Keflavik, I was sure we were in the wrong place. In front of me sat a building that would have been at home housing chicken production at a farm. It was the hottest day of the year in Iceland, with temperatures reaching above 60°F (maybe 20°C), and a double door at the end of the building was wide open, adding to the farm building image," Chernicoff writes. The centre consumes 1.2MW of power (around 1kW per square foot), which is more than the vast majority of traditional data center facilities. It uses a fairly traditional center hot aisle, with the free air cooling coming through the side of the building.Chernicoff also visited a nearby biitcoin mining centre from BitFury. Read further...
