Wiro Niessen, Professor of Medical Imaging at Erasmus Medical Centre and TU Delft in the Netherlands has received the Simon Stevin Master award (including 500.000 euro grant) from STW to further develop his deep learning programme that is based on already the of thousands of MR and CT scans. His programme "learns" what a normal brain looks like from these scans and how to recognise early changes that could lead. to Alzheimers disease. Focus on Europe

Starting Sunday, July 12, the HPC gathering in Frankfurt, Germany, will be much talked about in the community and the IT media, as 2,600 HPC enthusiasts from 53 countries and 153 exhibitors will be making their way to the city for the ISC High Performance conference and exhibition. The ISC High Performance conference will be held from July 12 to July 16. The current registration points toward a record number of attendees. In particular, international attendance is surging, with China more than doubling its representation, and other countries, such as France, the US, Japan, and the UK, showing double-digit increases. "At this time we have 15 percent more registrations than last year. If this trend continues, we will be seeing more than 2,600 people at the show. Besides the main conference, the ISC Tutorial and Workshops are also attracting good attendance", stated Martin Meuer, the ISC General Co-Chair. With a very interesting five-day programme and a comprehensive three-day exhibition, ISC High Performance 2015 is determined to make history with its attendance as well as its programme.
